Soil total organic carbon/total nitrogen ratio as a key driver deterministically shapes diazotrophic community assemblages during the succession of biological soil crusts

چکیده
The diazotrophic community in biological soil crusts (biocrusts) is the key supplier of nitrogen dryland. To date, there still limited information on how biocrust development influences succession community, and what are most important factors mediating communities during succession. Using high throughput nifH amplicon sequencing, diazotrophs soils at different developmental stages were comparatively studied. results evidenced decreases TOC/TN ratio pH value with development. Nostoc Scytonema dominant genera all stages, while Azospirillum Bradyrhizobium abundant only bare soil. Diazotrophic co-occurrence networks tended to be less complex connected was factor diversity, composition assembly processes, diazotrophic-diversity NO3−-N/NH4+-N positively correlated nitrogenase activity This study provided novel understandings fixation patterns by showing effects composition, networks, recognizing as

Microfauna Within Biological Soil Crusts
A variety of microfauna inhabit the biological soil crusts (biocrusts) of arid soils from all parts of the globe, including the southwestern USA (Bamforth 2004, 2008; Darby et al. 2006, 2007a, b; Neher et al. 2009), the Negev Desert of Israel (Jones and Shachak 1990; Pen-Mouratov et al. 2011), the Tengger Desert of northern China (Liu et al. 2011; Li et al. 2011), Australia (Robinson et al. 200...
متن کاملDiazotrophic community structure and function in two successional stages of biological soil crusts from the Colorado Plateau and Chihuahuan Desert.
The objective of this study was to characterize the community structure and activity of N2-fixing microorganisms in mature and poorly developed biological soil crusts from both the Colorado Plateau and Chihuahuan Desert. Nitrogenase activity was approximately 10 and 2.5 times higher in mature crusts than in poorly developed crusts at the Colorado Plateau site and Chihuahuan Desert site, respect...
متن کاملSuccession of N cycling processes in biological soil crusts on a Central European inland dune.
Biological soil crusts (BSCs) are microbial assemblages that occur worldwide and facilitate ecosystem development by nitrogen (N) and carbon accumulation. N turnover within BSC ecosystems has been intensively studied in the past; however, shifts in the N cycle during BSC development have not been previously investigated. Our aim was to characterise N cycle development first by the abundance of ...
متن کاملEcological Succession, Hydrology and Carbon Acquisition of Biological Soil Crusts Measured at the Micro-Scale
The hydrological characteristics of biological soil crusts (BSCs) are not well understood. In particular the relationship between runoff and BSC surfaces at relatively large (>1 m(2)) scales is ambiguous. Further, there is a dearth of information on small scale (mm to cm) hydrological characterization of crust types which severely limits any interpretation of trends at larger scales. Site diffe...
متن کاملAnalysis of environmental factors determining development and succession in biological soil crusts.
Biological soil crusts play important ecological functions in arid and semi-arid regions, while different crust successional patterns appeared in different regions. Therefore in this study, the environmental conditions between Shapotou (with cyanobacterial, lichen and moss crusts) and Dalate Banner (with only cyanobacterial and moss crusts) regions of China were compared to investigate why lich...
